The previous shirt designs lacked the vintage bootleg feel that was required and the owners of the clothing line wanted to mix retro art with modern streetwear. Current designs on the market were also to expensive for teenagers-young adults to really afford.
So we’d decided to mix modern artists with retro style designs, the business predominately wanted to push hip-hop and pop culture as well. So for our first concepts, we designed our shirt around a modern-day artist who goes by “Playboy Carti “ we used retro fonts and design styles to achieve an old-school look.
Process:
This project begun with competitor research we noticed our competition used old school artists for this design style. Although those old school artists weren’t the artist the younger demographic are currently listening to. So even though the younger demographic liked the style the shirt weren’t as relatable as they could be. This is why we decided to utilise modern artist.
I then begun to research artwork related to the artist to gain inspiration. We had decided to use a lot of colours and give it a semi playful theme as this is the style's commonly used in the artist is album cover art and artwork related to him. There was multiple revisions with the client where concepts were sent to them and we would make small changes to get to the final result we currently have.
